“Unusually Altruistic” TV Campaign Inspires Americans to End Global Poverty
The campaign highlights TechnoServe's unique, effective, and proven market-based approach
Arlington, VA (September 25, 2023) – TechnoServe, the international nonprofit that champions a markets-based approach to ending poverty, is launching a new national TV campaign called Unusually Altruistic on September 25.
Narrated by a cashew nut, the campaign highlights how this high-value crop changed the life of Carlos Lássimo in Mozambique. The campaign is expected to reach 35 million viewers on CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, Fox Business, and BBC America in a three-week run.
“In the past five decades, TechnoServe has helped hundreds of thousands of farmers and small business owners lift themselves, their families, and their communities out of poverty,” said John Keightley, Chief Advancement Officer “Unusually Altruistic gives us the opportunity to highlight one of their stories to inspire Americans to consider a different way to make a difference because everyone deserves the opportunity to build a better life.”
TechnoServe’s work with cashew farmers illustrates the organization’s unique approach to fighting poverty. It helps people gain the skills, connections, and confidence to create brighter futures for their families and communities. For more than two decades, TechnoServe has helped to transform the cashew sector across Africa. Last year, the organization helped more than 600,000 farmers growing crops like cashews earn an additional $162 million by harnessing the power of the private sector to end poverty.
In 2022, TechnoServe improved the lives of 3.1 million people and helped 1.3 million farmers, entrepreneurs, workers, and other community members across Latin America, Africa, and South Asia earn $366 million. It is rated the #1 charity for fighting poverty by ImpactMatters. Every dollar donated to TechnoServe returns $5 of financial benefits for hardworking small-scale farmers and entrepreneurs to create lasting prosperity for themselves and their communities.
