TechnoServe and J.P. Morgan Partner to Help Improve Workforce Readiness among Mumbai Underprivileged Youth
Mumbai, India – TechnoServe, a global non-profit organization, in partnership with J.P. Morgan, has launched a development program focused on enhancing workforce readiness among the underprivileged youth in Mumbai.
The Youth Employability Program (YEP), funded by J.P. Morgan, was launched in Mumbai in March 2015 and is a one-year program designed to develop and strengthen skills that will help participants secure productive jobs in the future and allow them to participate effectively in the workplace.
The program delivers personal and professional effectiveness training that will help build knowledge, awareness and confidence while helping facilitate linkages with relevant vocational training courses and meaningful employment opportunities. 2500 young people between the ages of 18 and 25 from disadvantaged backgrounds and low socio-economic environments in Mumbai are expected to benefit.
“We are extremely pleased to be supporting programs that seek to improve the employment prospects of underserved communities and individuals. High-impact programs like YEP are part of J.P. Morgan’s commitment to the national priority of enhancing skills in India as we continue to make philanthropic investments in workforce readiness and financial capability,” said Kalpana Morparia, CEO, J.P. Morgan India.
“YEP draws from our experience in Africa and Latin America. As in other developing countries it is imperative that we focus on opportunities for youth in India in order to ensure a stable and prosperous future for the region,” said Punit Gupta, TechnoServe’s India Country Director. “With the right support, young people can identify and capitalize on opportunities that will improve their livelihoods and strengthen their communities.”
