Regenerative business for people, nature, and climate

Global poverty solutions for the world, and at home.

Smallholder farmers and other entrepreneurs in the developing world are among those most affected by climate change. Yet they are often the least equipped to face its impacts. Volatile weather patterns, worsening natural hazards, and crop and livestock diseases all put small-scale producers at risk of unpredictable and lower yields.

It’s no surprise then that in the next 10 years, climate events and nature loss—if left unchecked—will push 132 million people into poverty. But it won’t be left unchecked.

TechnoServe is building on years of helping small-scale farmers and business owners to grow their incomes. We apply some of the most effective environmentally sustainable business models to improve incomes while boosting climate resilience and restoring the environment.

We increase impact by helping to build farms, enterprises, and markets that help to restore natural resources and build climate resilience—all while delivering better, stronger livelihoods to farmers and small business owners.

Nutritious, inclusive, and sustainable food systems

Global Poverty Solutions: The food business needs nourishing

The livelihoods of nearly 60% of the world’s population are tied to global food systems, with two-thirds of the world’s low-income people dependent on agriculture. When a food system struggles, food insecurity quickly follows, leading to serious health and economic harm, and putting new obstacles in the way of people trying to build pathways out of poverty.

TechnoServe is building on deep experience working with all types of businesses in the food system, from smallholder farmers to aggregators, food processors to small shops.

We will scale impact by increasingly working across, and not just within, these sectors, applying systems thinking and approaches that can unleash change at scale. In this way, we will build markets where farmers earn strong, reliable incomes; where food businesses spread prosperity across the value chain; and where thriving local enterprises provide jobs and nutritious food to millions of consumers.

Decent work for the next generations

Global Poverty Solutions: Making work that’s worthy

Developing markets face a massive youth bulge, with 90% of the world’s youth living in low- or lower-middle income countries. By the year 2034, more than 600 million new jobs will be needed to meet youth employment demands.

TechnoServe is building on a breadth of experience supporting individuals—especially youth—to find employment or build their own enterprise, as well as years of helping businesses improve their performance and create new jobs.

We will scale impact by applying our time-tested tools for job creation and entrepreneurship across all our work, measuring and refining our impact, and continuing to learn and adapt from all partners and sectors on the best ways to create decent work.
