Regional Director - West and Southern Africa
I. GENERAL INFORMATION:

II. PRIMARY PURPOSE & FUNCTION:
- Promote TechnoServe's vision, mission, strategic goals and operational objectives in West and Southern Africa (currently Ghana, Mozambique, South Africa and Swaziland).
- Ensure sound managerial, technical and financial development of all regional country programs as well as adherence to corporate policy and standards.
- Manage West and Southern Africa Division expense and capital budget.
- Coordinate support services to all West and Southern Africa program operations.
- Identify new program opportunities, particularly in value chain, entrepreneurship, and market and finance access development for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
- Acquire financing from bilateral and multilateral funding sources, as well as from private-sector companies and foundations.
- Build institutional partnerships and alliances, particularly with private-sector companies.
- Keep TechnoServe’s Board of Directors and its relevant committees and working groups apprised of  West and Southern Africa program performance and related issues.
III. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in corporate and country-specific strategic planning.
- Articulate the strategic direction of the West and Southern Africa Division, identifying growth opportunities in new projects, services, donors and countries, according to TechnoServe’s mission and corporate strategy.
- Oversee, review, support and approve annual divisional and country plans, contracts and budgets.
- Oversee, support and evaluate strategic, operational and financial performance of all country programs and the division as a whole.
- Oversee all grants management and reporting activities, ensuring timeliness and accuracy of all submissions.
- Oversee and manage all global initiatives and other institutional support grants within the context of the West and Southern Africa Division.
- Oversee and manage all division-wide monitoring and evaluation activities, ensuring timely reporting to the Board of Directors, President and relevant donors.
- Lead revenue generation activities for the region, including supporting the country programs in private and public grant solicitation, coordinating Development Division support, as well as proposal design, writing and negotiation.
- Support Development Division and country programs in private and public grant solicitation as needed.
- Implement and oversee division-wide new business development efforts, including country and market research.
- Oversee division-wide training activities, ensuring the presence of quality human capital.
- Maintain contact with relevant bilateral, multilateral and private organizations and individuals, and ensure that TechnoServe maintains its position as a professional, business-oriented institution and that the division maximizes its learning.
- Oversee the design, development and implementation of annual West and Southern Africa regional meetings.
- Plan and manage mid-term (6 month) country program reviews.
- Plan and manage quarterly meetings with Country Directors to review plan and budget variances.
- Represent the West and Southern Africa Division in bi-monthly team meetings.
- Ensure immediate compliance with all recommendations resulting from internal and external financial audits.
- Participate in Executive Committee meetings as appropriate.
- Support Development Division in identifying press opportunities.
IV. KNOWLEDGE & EXPERTISE:
- Master’s degree in finance, management, business administration, agricultural economics, international development or relevant field, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in international development and agribusiness; minimum of 3 years of overseas work experience in West and/or Southern African countries.
- Experience in key skill areas such as small and medium enterprise development (particularly in value chain development) agribusiness, business strategy, industry analysis, financial management, monitoring and evaluation, marketing, fundraising and public relations.
- Knowledge of proposal development, grant and contract management, rules and regulations from a range of other international aid donors (bilateral and multilateral institutions, private and public foundations and private companies).
- Strategic thinker.
- Proven capacity to develop new business with required funding.
- Demonstrated program and staff management, coaching and teambuilding skills in a multinational environment.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural skills.
- Willingness to travel internationally and domestically (estimated, at minimum, 14 weeks per year).
- Adept with information technology.
V. IMPACT:
Responsible for ensuring that TechnoServe's vision, mission, strategic goals and operational objectives are achieved within its West and Southern Africa programs.
VI. COMMUNICATIONS:
Provide TechnoServe with all division-related information. Maintain close and regular communications with the President, senior managers, country directors, donors, peers and appropriate Board members.
VII. RESOURCE MANAGEMENT:
- Responsible for managing division's budget.
- Directly supervise four Country Directors and two divisional staff. Responsible for a total division staff of approximately 125 people.
